Like most siblings, Lifty and Shifty argue about who is at fault when something goes wrong, but when trouble is afoot, they work together.ĭespite their disagreements, they show brotherly love towards each other in some episodes, including The Wrong Side of the Tracks, in which they are paired up together while riding on Lumpy's theme park roller coaster, Sea What I Found, in which they play chess together while waiting underwater, As You Wish, in which they hug each other happily (first when being saved from falling to their deaths, then when having their wishes granted), and Gems the Breaks, in which they glance at each other lovingly while testing the kryptonut on Splendid. They also have a trademark evil snicker (usually a different one for later episodes). Despite the smirks on their faces, they almost always end up dying in the episodes in which they appear. They probably rob Lumpy so frequently because his lack of intelligence and common sense makes him an easy target.Īlthough they have the same gender, appearance, and personality, Lifty is often the one bossed around. They mostly steal from Lumpy (in Meat Me for Lunch they steal meat from Lumpy's deli mart, in Milkin' It they steal a cow from Lumpy's farm, in Concrete Solution they steal his wallet, and in Junk in the Trunk they abduct his pet elephant). They also hunt for treasure, ransack houses, or do anything to get rich quick. They frequently steal merchandise and products from the other Happy Tree Friends (thus their names). He also seems notably distressed at Lifty’s entrapment in Easy For You to Sleigh.Lifty and his brother Shifty are two green kleptomaniac raccoon identical twin brothers with dark green mask-like markings around their eyes. In addition to what is mentioned above, Shifty presumably tries to save Lifty in Class Act, where he is seen trying to drag him off to safety, and also in Buns of Steal, where he rivets Lifty's foot to the van to stop him from falling out. Though few and far between, Shifty sometimes seems to care for Lifty. He also tries to take a dollar from him in Doggone It and successfully takes all of Shifty's pieces in a game of chess during Sea What I Found, which is considered cheating. However, in addition to often engaging in arguments with his twin, Lifty beats Shifty up over Pop’s wallet in Who's to Flame? and does not seem concerned about his death in The Wrong Side of the Tracks, only celebrating his own survival in a manner similar to that of Handy. They are also seen celebrating victories together in Sea What I Found, Gems the Breaks, False Alarm, and As You Wish. In Easy For You to Sleigh, he trusts what he thinks are Shifty’s instructions and jumps out the window without looking for himself, showing that he trusts his twin's judgement. Lifty typically seems to view Shifty as a partner and cares for him to a certain extent. The majority of the time, however, the two are known to come into conflict due to their greedy ambitions, sometimes to the point of choosing material possessions over their lives.Ī typical moment in the lives of two raccoon twins. When it comes to good terms, Lifty and Shifty often work together in committing their crimes, and occasionally show concern for each other. The two brothers sharing a hug over their victory.
